Compress Image to 1 MB

Compress an image to 1 MB

The preset uses the decimal upload limit 1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes and keeps the current supported format when possible.

Compression and exact byte checks run locally in this browser.

Upload requirements

Maximum file size
Decimal units: 1 KB = 1,000 bytes; 1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes.

Images keep their aspect ratio and are never enlarged.

Output format

Check the actual output against one million bytes

The workflow tests the bytes produced by your browser rather than predicting size from a quality slider. It never labels an over-limit output as passed.

Size targeting does not silently shrink dimensions or switch formats. Add dimension bounds or choose another format only when you want those changes.

Examples

One-megabyte profile image limit

A JPEG passes only when its unchanged original or generated copy is at most 1,000,000 bytes.

Compress Image to 1 MB FAQ

Is 1 MB the same as 1 MiB here?

No. This preset uses 1,000,000 bytes; the separate browser selection guard uses binary MiB.

Will the tool change image dimensions to reach 1 MB?

Not unless you also enter maximum width or height requirements.
